Emo
Also called emocore, emotional hardcore
Kind of Hardcore punk
Mid-1980s DC hardcore recoded as a confessional, sung-shout practice (Rites of Spring, Embrace), later a 1990s indie and 2000s chart school. It hears Hardcore punk for the short violent form and all-ages hall. Chart landings are emo pop. Emo-rap is a named SoundCloud recoding (emo emo rap). Post-hardcore is a sibling opening of the same hardcore, not a parent (Rites of Spring 1985 precedes Fugazi). 1990s Midwest/Seattle recoding stays on this node; indie-rock is not a second origin parent. Pop-punk is a later chart neighbor, not a parent. Screamo leftover as a later wing name. Mall-emo leftover as a 2000s market tag.
