Smooth jazz
Also called contemporary jazz, NAC jazz
Kind of Jazz
Radio jazz that keeps fusion’s electric groove and studio-band scoring, then drops rock volume and long-form shred for a quieter R&B sheen (Grover Washington, Jr., Benson’s Breezin’ years, later NAC format). It is a style of jazz, not a style of Jazz fusion and not quiet-storm R&B under another name. Fusion is the electric-jazz donor; Soul supplies the radio sheen. Quiet storm leftover as a parallel soul radio format, not a parent. Adult contemporary leftover as a catch-all. Later NAC dialects stay on this node. Empty Given is historically checked: radio dialects remain here rather than minting children.
