Synth-pop
Also called synthpop
Kind of Pop
Late-1970s–80s British chart pop that replaces the guitar band with synthesizer and drum machine as the default kit (Numan, Human League, Soft Cell, Depeche Mode, Yazoo). It is a style of Pop, not a bin for all 1980s radio. It hears Disco (Moroder’s sequenced floor) and Krautrock (Kraftwerk’s machine ensemble), and Post-punk as the Sheffield electronics door. New wave is a rock sibling, not a parent. Italo-disco stays a disco wing. Industrial stays off this node.
