Academic ballet
Also called danse d'école, ballet technique, French academic ballet
The French and Italian theatre-dance school (danse d'école): coded port de bras, turnout, pointed footwork, and academy pedagogy for the stage. It hears Ballet de cour for the court body, Classical period for Noverre’s ballet d’action, and Romanticism for the Taglioni/Giselle public repertory. This node is the stage-body parent of Escuela bolera, not a claim that Spanish academies were the Paris Opéra (Goldberg et al.). Ballet d’action leftover as the Noverre recoding on the Classical hop, not a second genre. Petipa and Imperial Russian ballet leftover as a later wing on this node. Twentieth-century neo-classical and Balanchine leftover as later school dialect.
