Brill Building
Also called brill building pop, girl-group pop
Kind of Pop
Late-1950s–mid-60s New York pop factory: professional writer–producer teams (Goffin/King, Mann/Weil, Greenwich/Barry, Spector) and girl-group or vocal-group singles. It is a style of Pop. It hears Traditional pop as the cubicle labor split, Doo-wop as vocal-group cycles, and Rhythm and blues as the Drifters-class single. Girl-group stays on this node as the vocal wing. Motown stays on Soul. Teen-pop stays a leftover bin. Philles/Spector stays here.
