1970s–90s Hong Kong Cantonese chart pop: verse–chorus film and TV songs, a star singer, and a studio-orchestra or band mix (Sam Hui as hinge, then Leslie Cheung, Anita Mui, Beyond). It is a named child of Pop, not a leftover “Chinese pop” bin. It hears Kayōkyoku as Japanese cover repertory, Shidaiqu as the Shanghai nightclub/film-song job, and 1980s Dance-pop as Mui’s Madonna-style dance star. Beyond’s guitar wing stays on this node. C-pop stays a leftover bin. Cantonese opera is not a parent.
