British reggae’s romantic school: one-drop or rockers reggae chassis, soul and sweet R&B vocal, and a South London sound-system and 45 circuit (Louisa Mark, Janet Kay, Carroll Thompson, Brown Sugar). It is a style of Reggae, not a kind of soul and not an alias of Jamaican lovers singles (those stay on the reggae node). It hears Reggae for riddim and bass, and Soul for the sung love-song job. Rocksteady waits one step back via reggae. “UK reggae” remains a leftover catch-all. Janet Kay is lovers rock pop. Later British R&B and bashment-romantic meetings stay leftover. It is not Dancehall and not two-tone.
