Surf
Also called surf music, surf rock
Kind of Rock and roll
Early-1960s California guitar-band style: wet-reverb lead, fast picking or tom-tom break, and a teenage beach public (Dale, Chantays, Surfaris, early Beach Boys). It is a style of Rock and roll. Vocal chart landings are surf pop. The wet-lead hop into amateur US bands is surf garage rock. Levantine/Greek tune leftover as Dale repertoire (Misirlou), not a genre parent. Hot-rod leftover as a Beach Boys car wing. Instrumental-rock leftover as a catch-all. Japanese eleki leftover. 1990s soundtrack revival leftover.
