The mid-1990s Gothenburg dialect of death metal: growl and blast or double-kick remain, but guitar lines are sung, diatonic, and often Maiden-shaped (At the Gates, Dark Tranquillity, In Flames). It is a style of death metal, not a kind of power metal and not “death metal that is pretty.” New Wave of British Heavy Metal supplies the lead-guitar melody; Death metal supplies the voice and grid. Later Metalcore takes this dialect. Finnish melodeath leftover as a regional wing on this node.
